According to American Bankruptcy Institute, bankruptcy filings totaled more than 770,000 from January through June of this year.

In a recent article by CNNMoney.com, Bankruptcy filings are once again rising. It is anticipated that this year will max out around 1.6 million filings.

The most bankruptcy filings were in 2005 before the Bankruptcy Code changed, making it harder for Americans to file. Before the amendments took place, there were more than 2 million filings.
