Mr. Scranton graduated from the Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University and began his legal career as a prosecutor with the Columbus City Attorney’s Office. He gained experience handling over 30 jury trials and over 500 motion hearings and bench trials. Cases he worked on range from OVI to theft. He also spent three years as the environmental prosecutor for the Columbus City Attorney’s Office working on criminal cases involving city code and zoning, building permits, and animal abuse and neglect.
Mr. Scranton went on to practice criminal and traffic defense at The Ohio State University’s Student Legal Services. There, he successfully defended Ohio State students in offenses ranging from OVI to underage alcohol offenses. He taught as part of the school’s First Year Success Series and STEP programs on the subjects of criminal rights and responsibilities. As part of a program by the Interfraternity Council, he also spoke to fraternities and sororities on campus on subjects ranging from hazing to knowing and understanding their criminal rights.
Mr. Scranton has presented at National Legal Aid & Defender Association’s national conference on defending the rights of clients accused of soliciting, and presented at Ohio State’s Leadership Awards Banquet. He has also been an advisor for several Buck-I-Serv trips that take a group of 10 or more Ohio State students for a week around the country to do community service work. Mr. Scranton believes in the concept of innocent until proven guilty, and that everyone deserves the right to a fair trial. He knows that when someone is in trouble with the law, they need an attorney who is willing to fight for them and keep them well-informed.
