Free credit counseling information

April 22, 2010 | Posted in: Bankruptcy Consumer Law Misc

In the event that you are seeking bankruptcy relief, it is beneficial to know that there is a free credit counseling agency that has been approved by the US Department of Justice for Ohio residents.

A group called the Tides Center is now sponsoring free online credit counseling certificates to debtors.

According to the The Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 (BACPA), every person filing for bankruptcy in the United States is required to take a pre-filing credit counseling course and a pre-discharge credit counseling course. After the courses are complete, a certificate is issued and it will be filed with the bankruptcy court in order to receive discharge on the debt.
